Red Top Meadows: Progress Update III
September 25th, 2025 | UA | Construction Progress
The finish line is in sight! Siding is being installed and final exterior detailing is getting wrapped up. On the interior, cabinetry install is largely complete, furniture is beginning to arrive and other miscellaneous finish details are coming together. Plenty to do before the October 14th ribbon cutting (and C of O...)!
Project Description: The 20-acre campus borders Bridger-Teton National Forest and is home to up to 14 boys at a time. The new building is replacing old log cabins that had fallen into disrepair over the years and were lacking in basic safety features necessary for creating a safe environment for the residents. The program consists of 14 individual dorm rooms divided into five pods, a kitchen, dining and common area, staff office, rec. room and gear storage. The new building works with existing structures to define a courtyard and campus center that is designed to contain the inhabitants without confining them.
The circular windows are a direct nod to the fanciful round aperture motif of classics from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and The Hobbit to Star Wars and the real life portholes of boats, spaceships, and the International Space Station. Much as authors use the circle to subvert their audience’s expectations and signify something out of the ordinary, we are using the round windows to reset the boys’ expectation for what their experience at a residential treatment facility can be. Wood-clad interiors and a pitched roof reference the archetypal cabin form, aligning the design with the wilderness aspect of the program that sets Red Top Meadows apart from other residential treatment facilities.
